A House Full of Whispers (Part One)
Enduring Life's Trials Makes One Stronger
Memoir Offers Hope, Healing and Information to Victims of Domestic Abuse

A House Full of Whispers"For those who read my story and are unfortunate to have lived through the same, hello brother or sister you are a survivor. For those who can empathize without the images, I envy you," writes Sharon Wallace.

Her memoir, A House Full of Whispers, is a chilling and true account of the harrowing childhood she lived through at the hands of her biological mother and partner."It's been 34 years since I had the courage to say 'No' and leave the abysmal life they dished out."

Her book is not for the faint of heart, but its message of hope and overcoming life's darkest trials is also not easily forgotten."I knew fight or flight time had arrived and if I were to survive I had to be more cunning than the night devil," she writes. "My friends celebrated their coming of age with dignity, humor and dreams; I feared my youth and the only humor his, when fear struck my soul. The night devil wanted more than the torturous games he played. Mother chose to ignore my pleas and punish me for the unwanted attention he bestowed upon my young body."A House Full of Whispers is the first in a trilogy about Wallace's life.

Her goal in sharing her story is to bring hope to anyone who has been through the vile gamut of abuse. She reminds the reader that, "It need not be the end but the beginning of a life that will be enriched by the good people met on life's road.""I thought, like many others my abuse would stop when I left my house of whispers. I was 16 years old, alone in a city where society chose to accommodate my abuser, propelling me into despair and thoughts of suicide."

Sharon Wallace resides in the United Kingdom with her husband of 30 years. She has five sons and seven grandchildren. She has written numerous poems and hopes to publish some of them in the future. Her writing has also appeared online and in her local newspaper.
Setting of The Book
The setting of the book is about a young girl who grew up in a house of abuse, her struggle to survive, and the consequences of asking for help. Beaten abused and psychologically tortured by the very people she should have been able to trust with her life, her parents.

I started my early life like any other little girl inquisitive, eager to please and help the adults within my life, I also longed for a daddy to treat me as a special princess. Most of all I yearned for the arms of an adult to hold and comfort me.

Age two….I was taken from my biological parents because of neglect and placed within the care of social services.

Age four…. I was excited about my first day at school and skipped and danced in front of the mirror, my shinny black patent shoes clip clopped on the stone floor. I had been fostered by a real mummy and daddy.

Age five….I lost the only parents I had known and was once again removed because of neglect and placed once more in the system of children homes, for waifs and strays.

Age six.... I was old enough to join the brownies and gained many points towards my badges I longed for my own Mummy and Daddy to come sit with the other parents proud of my achievements

Age eight…. I was able to count money and my spellings easier to attain, I was also more aware of my surroundings and noticed I was not like the other little girls in my school. But decided to work harder and pray faster so the good lord will make some one love me.

Age nine... All my birthday and Christmas wishes were granted, my biological mother and her partner came and took me from the orphanage I was going to be some ones little princess.

Age ten... The night devil stole my dreams taking the child god created and in her place stood another, who was moulded to be what he desired.

Age sixteen…. I fought for my freedom and dignity nearly costing me my life, I ran from my past into an ebony night and my fight for survival and justice had only just begun

Age forty-nine…. I wrote my story and self published to let the world know what happened to me in my house of whispers.

Appeal to Readers
The subject matter of the book is always in the media and will make many other survivors realise that others before have walked their path.

I hope it will give others hope for a future without fear, a sense of pride and the ones who have been fortunate not to have lived through the same, some understanding of the pain and fear children of abuse have to endure on a daily basis. Shutting the front door on a child’s cry only stifles the noise.

Target Audience
Survivors of abuse, neighbours, family and friends who seek the courage to speak out. The government and judges who make the decisions on judicial sentencing.

Excerpts

He Was Very Drunk
He was very drunk; coins scattered on the pavement as he pulled his hands from his pockets unsteady on his feet he slurred aggressively.

"Two tins of beans bitch and don't take all day"

He Was Very Drunk Will you come with me? I pleaded with Bobby- Joe
"No I don’t fancy walking all the way to the shops but I will wait for you we can go to Sylvias after"

Taking the money from stepfather I was annoyed with myself for not getting out of the street sooner I kept repeating to myself
Beans, Beans!
Afraid I would forget what was needed getting it wrong would be signing my own death warrant and the beans word rang around my head.

After paying for the peas I ran all the way home proud I had made up for lost time talking to a friend.
"Got them wont be a minute I will give them to my dad and be straight out"
"OK, hang on I will come with you"
I was glad Bobby-Joe was coming with me leaving my friend at the back door I handed the peas to him.

"How the fucking hell can we have peas on toast"? he bellowed.

Edging my way towards the back door I promised to go straight away and change them lifting a tin over his head he threw the tin at me knocking me off my feet as though he were playing skittles, I landed in a heap by the back door and knew I needed to get up, looking to see where Bobby-Joe was not wanting the embarrassment of my friend watching the beating that was about to ensue.......

Standing at Pams Gate
I was aware this was my life from now on, "How did you get on" Pam asked with an inquiring mind.

Standing at Pams GateWhat I needed was someone to hold me convince me all would be fine and take this burden away. Inside I was dying my heart heavy someone saying they believed me would make a difference, I explained they were to speak with Rosie again.

"Have they mentioned when it will go to court"
"What do you mean court?"
"You will have to go to court if he keeps denying it."

No way was I going to stand in a room full of strangers and give details of what he had done, I was ashamed and could not find the strength or the right words to explain some thing so horrid and embarrassing.

As for a courtroom I had only seen one on the TV what had I done, I should have kept my mouth shut what if I told the police it was all lies? I could go back home it was not so bad I had coped before. Stepfather would not touch me again he would know I would report it.

Yes that's what I will do tomorrow I will go to the police station and tell them it was all a mistake.

I got ready bright and early the following morning I was starting to have nightmares, where once my dreams were.

Reviews

A House Full of Whispers Is a book full of emotions for both author and reader.
The struggles that Ms. Wallace faced as a child reminded me of my own abused childhood and brought to light many things that I had not dealt with on my own. To think that a young girl was subjected to all that pain and cruelty with no one to believe her, and no one to defend her, not even the authorities is atrocious.

The fact that she finds the will and stamina to go on is commendable only to herself - knowing inside that she is a valuable person worthy of love and compassion - wanting only to show the rest of the world that it is true. I can't wait until books 2 and 3 are published. I admire her strength and tenacity at age16. I can't wait to see what it's like at ages 21 - 30 and beyond. My hats off to you, "Sharon Wallace," for all that you have overcome!

The author writes extremely well and I love the way her work effortlessly grips my attention. She has a very fluid writing style which compliments the extremely personal experience detailed in book.
I found my heart fluttering on numerous occasions in anticipation of what was to happen next, and that was within the first four chapters alone.
I think it is an extremely brave and inspirational piece of writing which will help others to confront their experiences.

I just couldn't put this book down I had to know how it finished almost as soon as I started reading it.
That said, the first page did create massive empathy within me and I did feel like I should stop reading for a minute!
The book uses poetic language to create the scenes in ones head, which is ironic as the story that unfolds is far from poetry. Rather it is one of personal horror that is difficult to read, knowing that it is a true story.
The authoress shows true class, or maybe true pain not giving any graphic detail of what happened to her at the hands of her stepfather. Instead she takes you to the edge and then leaves you with your imagination, only ever making one reference as to what definitely didn't happen to her.
I can't wait for part two of the trilogy!

I just wanted to e-mail you and thank you for bringing this subject out in the open, I suffered physical, sexual and emotional abuse from a family member but have never reported it. I am afraid of the condemnation from others and the rest of my family turning against me.

I lost my childhood I don't want to lose my family as well. Your book is truly thought provoking. I read it has many errors on the Amazon review page. I must be stupid because I could find none and the story you told had me craving for more. I have included my e-mail address for you. Please inform me when your other book is released. Thank you once again for speaking out its people like your self that give hope to others like my self. The government don't do enough or support us the victims enough to have the strength to speak. I wish you well and may god stand besides you all the way.

A much appreciated survivor who has no courage.

Painting pictures with words is the way I would describe the book, she has a way of making you see and feel what she writes.

Once I started to read I was hooked and could not place it down not even to eat! I will be buying the second in her trio and hope that it captivates me the same way.

The book was very interesting and I found putting it down hard to attain once I turned the first page. I could visualize each chapter of her childhood and felt deep loathing towards her abusers. As a mother I can not understand the wickedness shown towards a daughter. I wait for the second in the trilogy with bated breath, with the need to know what happened to her and her abusers.

I was so engrossed by the author's life I could not put the book down, my heart aches for her and although I have never been a big reader I wiped a few tears.
A must read for any one interested in this kind of book I will certainly be waiting for a sequel.

A House Full of Whispers has been written by an adult whose voice was stifled when young but now has the freedom and courage to speak out.

Understand that it’s OK to say NO and to tell some one about the pain and suffering you are dealing with. No one has the right to hurt and abuse another human no matter what situation or the relationship. Violence control, abuse of any sort is not the way to show you care.

The truth is the abusers are the weak ones among us they need to control the young and vulnerable to make them feel strong. They would never be able to do to another adult what they do to a child. Society needs to stand proud and point the finger when they believe a child is being hurt, not close their minds and believe it’s OK because it does not affect them. Every one has a duty to keep the generations after us safe
